What to expect on the Dead Sea, Mount Nebo and Madaba tour
This page is written from traveller reports and the operator’s published listing. We have not taken this tour ourselves.
The day covers the classic route south-west of Amman. Madaba’s St George’s Greek Orthodox Church holds the sixth-century mosaic map of the Holy Land. Mount Nebo looks out over the Jordan Valley towards the Dead Sea. Bethany Beyond the Jordan, the Baptism Site, sits on the river itself, and the day finishes with three hours at a resort beach on the Dead Sea. Doing all four by taxi means negotiating a car for the whole day, so a booked driver is an easier way to fit them in.
Guides are rated 4.9 out of 5 on the listing, transport 4.9 and value for money 4.7. Fewer than one review in twenty is below four stars.
Four things about how this tour works are useful to know before booking:
- This is a driver, not a guide. The listing says a local guide is not included, and at Madaba and Mount Nebo you walk round on your own.
- Entry fees and Dead Sea access cost extra unless you choose those options. The tour does not stop at a public beach, so without a resort pass you may only see the sea from outside.
- Time at Madaba can be short. Several reviews from the winter of 2025 to 2026 say the group had about 10 minutes there, against 45 minutes in the itinerary.
- In winter, resorts can close the sea to swimmers on windy days, and the Baptism Site occasionally closes to tourists for pilgrimage visits.
Many of the lower-rated reviews come from travellers who expected a guided tour or an all-in price. The listing’s inclusions say plainly which parts are optional, but they sit below the itinerary and are easy to read past.
Booked with the right option, this is a well-reviewed, low-cost way to see four sites in one day. If you want someone to explain the history at each stop, or a single price that covers everything, the base booking is a weaker fit.
Which option to book
The listing sells the same route at three levels. The base price covers the car, the driver and the stops. One option adds entrance fees to all sites, and another adds a 5-star Dead Sea resort with lunch. The booking form shows the price for each on your date, and you can also choose a private car instead of a shared one.
Paying on the day is possible, and some travellers prefer it. The Baptism Site lists entry at 12 JD for foreign visitors, and reviewers in 2025 reported paying 3 JD at the Madaba church and 3 JD at Mount Nebo. Reviewers who paid for a resort pass on the day reported between about 25 and 50 JD per person, depending on the resort and whether lunch was included. At current exchange rates that puts a transport-only booking at roughly $80 to $120 per person once you are in the water. Our Dead Sea day trip price guide compares that with tours that include the resort.
The resort option makes more sense if you want lunch, towels and showers sorted before you leave Amman. The transport-only booking suits you better if you hold a Jordan Pass, want to choose your own resort, or plan to skip the resort and use the public Dead Sea Tourist Beach instead. One reviewer found that most of these stops are not covered by the Jordan Pass, so check what yours covers first.
Five tips before you book
- Choose the entry-fee and resort options at checkout if you want a fixed price. Otherwise bring enough Jordanian dinars to cover the stops and a resort pass, since one reviewer found Mount Nebo took cash only.
- Book the private option if you want to set your own pace. Reviewers on private bookings describe staying longer at the sites they cared about and adding stops on the way.
- Ask your driver at pickup how long you will have in Madaba. If the mosaic map is the reason you booked, say so before you set off.
- Read up on Madaba and Mount Nebo the night before. With no guide at these two stops, a few minutes of background makes the visit easier to follow.
- Pack swimwear, a towel, a hat and your passport. The listing asks for all three items besides the hat, and one reviewer found the Baptism Site very hot even in May.
What the day is actually like
The itinerary as published runs to about 10 hours. Five drives add up to 3 hours 20 minutes, and the four stops add up to 6 hours 45 minutes. The listing’s headline duration is 4 to 10 hours, so check the length of the option you pick. Reviewers describe days of 9 and 10 hours on the full route.
Pickup is from your hotel or address in Amman, and the drive to Madaba takes about 45 minutes. One reviewer said the driver introduced himself on WhatsApp the evening before and messaged again in the morning with a pickup time. Groups are small: reviewers mention groups of three and solo travellers who had the car to themselves. Drivers speak English and Arabic, and the listing offers no other languages.
Many reviews praise the driver as friendly, punctual and full of local knowledge, and name him. Mahmoud, Saadeh, Fox and Ramzi come up most often. Several reviewers mention tea and coffee in the car.
Stop 1: St George’s Church, Madaba
The itinerary gives 45 minutes at St George’s Greek Orthodox Church, home of the Madaba Mosaic Map. Several reviews from late 2025 say the group had about 10 minutes. Other reviewers on the same route felt they had enough time, and one said the driver added an extra stop in Madaba.
One reviewer in 2025 found the church partly under renovation.
Stop 2: Mount Nebo
The hour at Mount Nebo covers the Moses Memorial Church and the viewpoint over the Jordan Valley. The itinerary lists shopping here, and several reviewers describe a stop at a mosaic workshop and shop on the way. One reviewer felt these shop stops cut into time elsewhere, while others enjoyed seeing the mosaics being made. If you would rather skip it, tell the driver.
Stop 3: The Baptism Site
Bethany Beyond the Jordan gets the longest sightseeing stop, at 2 hours. Here the site provides its own guide: entry includes a shuttle and a guided walk down to the river.
The site occasionally closes to tourists. Two reviewers in January 2026 could not visit, one because of a pilgrimage visit. One of those drivers took the group to the Royal Automobile Museum instead. The shuttle can also run late, and one reviewer said the guided walk took longer than planned.
Stop 4: The Dead Sea
The last three hours, including lunch, are at a resort beach on the Dead Sea. Reviewers mention the Holiday Inn and the Crowne Plaza most often. Reviewers describe the resort option as beach access, the pools, towels, showers and a buffet lunch. Opinions on the lunch are mixed. Several reviewers praise it, and others found the Holiday Inn buffet ordinary.
The listing’s note says no public beach in Dead Sea, which means this tour does not stop at one. Jordan does have a public beach, covered in our guide to Dead Sea beaches. Travellers who skip the resort are left with three hours of waiting, so agree a plan with your driver at pickup. One reviewer said the driver suggested a cheaper alternative.
One reviewer said there was no chance to see the salt formations shown in the listing’s photos.
Other Practical Things to Know
- Dress modestly for the churches and the Baptism Site.

Is the Dead Sea, Mount Nebo and Madaba tour worth it?
Yes, if you want a reliable driver for a long day and you are happy to explore the sites yourself. For $26 per person, or less while the discount runs, you get about 10 hours of door-to-door transport and four stops that are hard to link by taxi. The resort option may be worth the extra if you want lunch, showers and a towel waiting for you.
It is a weaker fit if you want history explained at every stop, because the driver doesn’t guide you round the sites. If you mainly want the Dead Sea with a fixed price, the 5-star resort day trip with lunch started from $67 per person when we checked, shown discounted to $61, and is rated 5.0. It is built around the resort and does not list the Madaba and Mount Nebo stops. The Madaba, Mount Nebo, Baptism Site and Dead Sea tour from R&H VIP Transportation Services runs the same four stops by private car from $49 per person, rated 4.9.
