How a Resort Day Trip Works

From your Amman hotel to a lounger at Sweimeh and back.

  1. Book the pass with the transport

Buying resort entry as part of the tour is normally cheaper and always simpler than turning up at the gate and negotiating a day rate.

  2. Pickup in Amman, mid-morning arrival

Hotel pickup, an hour down Route 65, and you are through the resort gate before the middle of the day.

  3. Float, mud, pool, lunch

The routine that makes the pass worth it: fifteen minutes in the sea, rinse in fresh water, black mud, rinse again, then a proper swim in the pool and the lunch buffet.

  4. Back in Amman by evening

Most resort day trips give you most of the afternoon at the property and return to Amman between 6pm and 8pm.

Worth the Money?

What a Resort Pass Buys You at the Dead Sea

The case for it is more practical than luxurious.

The argument for a resort day pass is not the towel service. It is chemistry.

Why the shower is the product

Dead Sea water is roughly ten times as saline as the ocean, and it does not behave like seawater when you get out. It leaves a heavy, faintly oily mineral film that dries into a crust, and rinsing in the sea itself does nothing — the sea is the problem. Add the black mud, which is the reason most people are there, and you have a genuine need for pressurised fresh water within a few minutes of coming out.

Everything else a resort provides follows from that. Freshwater pools, so you can actually swim rather than bob. Changing rooms, so you are not driving back to Amman in a wet swimsuit. Shade, on a shoreline that is one of the hottest places in Jordan. Lunch, because there is very little else nearby. On the Jordanian side the resorts are clustered at Sweimeh, a short strip at the northern end of the sea, and they are close enough to identical that which one your tour uses matters less than whether it uses one at all.

What the pass costs as part of a tour

On this site, tours with resort entry and lunch bundled start around $61 per person including the round trip from Amman. Tours without it start at $26. The gap is roughly what a resort charges for day use anyway — so you are not paying a tour markup for the privilege so much as paying for the thing itself, once, through a single booking.

Buying it with the tour has a second advantage that is easy to miss: the operator has an arrangement with the property. Walking up to a five-star resort gate in the middle of a Friday and asking for a day rate is a different experience.

When a resort pass is the wrong call

It is not always the right answer. If you are on a tight budget, if you only want the photograph, or if you are already stopping at Mount Nebo, Madaba and the Baptism Site and will get perhaps ninety minutes at the water, the resort becomes an expensive shower. Jordan does have a genuine public option — the Dead Sea Tourist Beach, formerly Amman Beach, redeveloped and renamed in February 2026, with admission currently listed at 10 JOD for foreign visitors. It has showers. They are basic.

We have laid the two side by side in public beach vs resort, and covered the wider shoreline in the best Dead Sea beaches in Jordan.

If the resort day is what you want, the shortest route to it is to check availability for your dates. If you would rather add the holy sites on the way down, look at the full-day tours instead.

"It was excellent. Our driver, Zacarías, was great. He explained a lot to us about the Dead Sea and the surrounding area. He told us about Amman. He was very polite and friendly, and really, of all the trips I've taken, he was one of the most attentive, and he took care of every detail. I would definitely take the sightseeing tour again 1,000 times. I recommend it 100%!! Thank you very much, Zacarías."

"We had a really great day with Taeb. He's an extremely knowledgeable guide and shared so many stories about Jordan's history, the Dead Sea, and lots of other facts about the country along the way. I'd definitely recommend this experience, it's a relaxing, chill day trip but still feels like something special."

"I felt that the Dead Sea experience, the hotel, and the service were worth more than the price. I'm not good at English, but my driver, Munir, spoke to me in easy-to-understand English and was considerate and kind. I would like to request him again when I come to Jordan."

"We had the most wonderful day, made possible by our guide Maen. I had been poorly and he was very considerate, as were the company. Maen has incredibly interesting and taught us so much about Amman, the Dead Sea and Jordan in general. He was an excellent calm driver and full of very interesting facts. He offered to take us to the site of Mosses which we were not expecting. This was the most incredible addition to our trip and one I will never forget. Thank you Maen. Nothing was too much trouble for him. Waiting for is at the hotel, advising what to do in the hotel and at the sea. He even organised our transfer to the airport for the next day and came smiling and helpful at 6.30 in the morning right on time. We have made a new friend in Jordan and will never forget Marn thank you also to the company for their great support changing my dates as I was ill"

"It was amazing! Ismat is a gem! He explained so many things like a historian would! He is definitely an asset to this company and I hope next time I’m visiting he could be our guid as well! The beauty of Jordan’s history has never been shown to me like this, I come here almost once a year for work and I had no idea how rich in history this country is if Ismat didn’t show me and tell me exactly what everything was!!!"

"Visiting the Dead Sea was a long time dream for my mom, my daughter and I. We booked the trip and our driver, Raed, gave us a very informative and fun experience. We even got to stop at the Baptism site along way and see the River Jordan. We are very happy with our experience and recommend Raed and this day trip to anyone!"
