Booking a Dead Sea Day Tour

Four steps from your Amman hotel to the water and back.

  1. Pick your inclusions, not your price

The headline price usually covers transport only. Beach or resort entry, and the lunch that comes with it, is an upgrade you select at checkout — that is where a $26 tour and an $83 tour diverge.

  2. Give your Amman address

Almost every operator here collects from any hotel or apartment inside their Amman pickup zone. You confirm the exact address when you book, so there is no meeting point to find.

  3. Start early

The Dead Sea basin runs hotter than Amman all year, and noticeably so in summer. Full-day tours pick up between 8am and 9am for a reason.

  4. Cancel free if plans move

Every tour on this page allows free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure, which is worth having on a trip this weather-dependent.

The Full Day, Honestly

What You Are Actually Booking

Where the price differences come from, and which ones matter.

A full day is the default shape for this trip, and for once the default is right. The Dead Sea is only about 60 km from Amman — 45 to 60 minutes on Route 65 — but three hours at the water plus two hours of driving does not fill a day, and every operator knows it. So the full-day itineraries fill the gap on the way down rather than at the shore.

The stops on the way down are not filler

The road from Amman to the Dead Sea passes within a few kilometres of two of the most-visited sites in Jordan, which is why almost every full-day tour includes them. Mount Nebo is the ridge from which, in the biblical account, Moses was shown the promised land; on a clear day the view west runs across the Jordan Valley. Madaba, fifteen minutes further on, holds the 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land set into the floor of St George’s church — the oldest surviving cartographic depiction of the region.

Several tours add the Baptism Site at Bethany Beyond the Jordan, the UNESCO-listed spot on the east bank of the river. It sits between Madaba and the sea and adds perhaps two hours.

None of these is a detour. That is the point: a full-day Dead Sea tour costs little more than a half-day one because the extra stops are free to the operator in driving terms.

Where the price actually differs

Compare two listings and the gap is almost never the vehicle. It is these three things, in this order:

Beach or resort entry. Most cheap listings quote transport only. Entry to a 5-star Dead Sea resort with lunch is an optional upgrade you tick at checkout, and it is the single biggest line item. Tours that bundle it start around $61. Tours that do not start at $26. They are not the same day out.

Private or shared. A shared vehicle on a fixed route is the cheapest way down. A private car with a driver who waits for you costs more and buys you your own timing — which matters if you want longer at the water and less at Madaba, or the reverse.

Entrance fees to the sites. Mount Nebo, Madaba and the Baptism Site each charge admission, and on many listings these are also an optional bundle rather than included. If you hold a Jordan Pass, check what it already covers before you pay twice.

What the day feels like

You will get two to three hours at the water. That is enough. The mineral content is roughly ten times that of seawater, it stings every cut and shaving nick you own, and fifteen to twenty minutes at a time before rinsing is the sensible rhythm. Float on your back; do not attempt front crawl and do not put your head under. The black mud on the shore is the other half of the ritual — coat, dry, rinse.

The one thing worth checking before you book is whether the place your operator uses has fresh water to rinse in. That single fact separates a good afternoon from a sticky drive back to Amman, and it is the real argument for the resort day trips over the cheapest option. If you want the trade-offs in full, read public beach vs resort.

If a full day is more than you want, compare it against the shorter format in half day vs full day — or check availability for the dates you are in Amman.

"I had a fantastic experience on this tour. In just one day, I managed to see so many fascinating historical places — from swimming in the Dead Sea and visiting the site where Jesus was baptized, to seeing the famous ancient mosaic map in the church in Madaba. Our driver, Hassan from Jordan Landmarks Tours, made the experience even better. Throughout the journey, he shared interesting stories about every place we visited, as well as about Jordan, its history and culture. The whole day was very well organized and never felt rushed. I came away with a lot of great memories and positive impressions. Highly recommended!"

"I had an amazing day on this tour! Everything was perfectly organized from start to finish. Floating in the Dead Sea and enjoying the mud bath was an unforgettable experience. The lunch at the Holiday Inn Dead Sea was absolutely delicious with a great variety of food. A special thank you to our guide, Anees, who was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole trip enjoyable with his explanations and positive attitude. The vehicle was modern, clean, and very comfortable throughout the journey. I also want to thank the Holiday Inn Dead Sea lifeguard, Muhammed, who was incredibly kind, helpful, and professional. He made everyone feel safe and was always ready to assist with a smile. This tour exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Jordan. A perfect day with unforgettable memories!"

"Me and my girlfriend took the itinerary to Mabada City and Mount Nebo trip on 27-05-2026. Our tour guide Mahmoud was so friendly, he even came earlier to save our time for itinerary. From the very beginning he was very informative all about Jordan including the city Mabada and Mount Nebo. More important than this his attitude was so professional and communication with us was so clear and understandable. He made our journey very enjoyable and understandable where we visit. We really appreciated his all efforts, tour guidance and his kindness. We are so grateful that he was our tour guide to show Mabada City and Mount. We can say he really well represented the hospitality of Jordan and true example of how tour guides should be"
